Mauricio Bautista Vega was born in Guaymas, Sonora in 1975 and graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico del Mar # 1 in Boca del Río, Veracruz with a degree in Fisheries Engineering. He specialized in catfish growth. He worked in Quintana Roo as a science teacher at the State Scientific and Technical Institute. At this Institute, he developed the ecological group Cuxaam Lu'um (Living Earth) and an informative gazette. The first edition was launched in September 2000. Since 2000 he has been working with CEA in the Environmental Education Program, and giving Recycling and Reuse Workshops held at six schools in the area.
