2003 already has begun as an exciting year and it will be a very busy one for CEA staff and volunteers. With the visit to Akumal by the Fish and Connectivity Group and the return of many of the marine scientists to continue their studies, Akumal will learn more about the health of the Akumal environment and how all of us can help Save The Great Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
As always, we, at CEA, hope you enjoy our first electronic newsletter for the New Year and, please, send it on to your friends and family!
How You Can Help! One of the best ways to support CEA is to become a member or to renew your membership. With the discounts offered at many of the Akumal businesses your membership can pay for itself and you will know you are helping to make a difference.

Coral Disease and Fish and Connectivity
Strategy Planning At Akumal
We know that coral reefs are dying all over the world. Many are located near highly inhabited coastal areas that are not environmentally friendly and some are found in what would be considered ‘pristine’ areas. What is causing the destruction of the coral reefs and can we make any changes that will help to preserve them? These are questions being asked by marine scientists. CEA Environmental Report 2
The second CEA environmental report is now available for Akumal residents at the CEA office at The CEA Center. There is good news in the report! The contamination of the Akumal groundwater has been reduced significantly and constructed wetlands have played a huge role in the contamination reduction. The contamination hotspots can be easily recognized on the map included in the report.
Please stop in and get your copy.
We will be sending you an announcement when the Environmental Report 2 can be downloaded from the CEA Website.
