As part of our celebration to commemorate World Water Day (22 March), Centro Ecológico Akumal, in coordination with CAPA (Comision de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado) and the children of Akumal, painted a mural on the new pumping station on 19 March. The painting depicts the hydrological cycle of water.



The activity started at 9 AM with a talk about the importance of water for our bodies and nature, and then a game was played where the positive and negative things that we do with water were identified, in order to reflect upon and build conclusions about the proper management of this vital liquid. The activity continued with the mural painting and concluded with a planting activity for the outside area of the cistern, using regional species.

On World Water Day, 22 March, the poetry contest “Water for Life 2005–2015” was carried out for the children’s category, inviting all the students of the Primary School Francisco Sarabio in the Akumal Pueblo. The winners were:

First Place:
Cori Alondra Puc Pablo,
11 years old, 5th grade of Primary. Her work was titled “Water.”

Second Place:
Norma Patricia Kinil Kinil,
10 years old, 5th grade of Primary. Her work was “Crystal Water.”

Third Place (tie):
Alexander Dzul Tuz,
8 years old, 2nd grade of Primary. His work was titled “Please Don’t Pollute the Water.”

Dalia Abigail Tun May,7 years old, 2nd grade of Primary. Her work was entitled "The Water."
