CEA staff and volunteers traveled to Emilio’s Restaurant in Tulum to both honor our outgoing Director, Charles Shaw, and welcome our incoming Director, Paul Sánchez-Navarro. Emilio and Maria, owning the restaurant as well as being CEA staff, completed our group.

Charles was presented with a beautiful handmade recycled-paper card, which we had signed with our sentiments. Eva created the card, and took the appropriate cover photograph―of beach rocks, with fossils, naturally. On the interior, Mauricio sketched a microscope and we added the caption: “Science Rocks!!”

Through the modern conveniences of Eva’s digital camera and photopaper, we were able to fulfill Charles's request for a group photograph―taken in the afternoon and delivered that evening.

As we leisurely enjoyed the fine food, beverages and companionship, we became more relaxed, and a series of individual candid photos were shot, though you won’t be seeing these on our Website. We could produce a commemorative calendar, though perhaps it’s best to let that evidence remain unpublished.

Paul is an excellent addition to CEA and we look forward to helping him accomplish his vision. We are happy to be able to continue working with Charles in his resumed role of “Dr. Science.”
