Since February, our Sheila has been at Paco's clinic.
The good news from the beginning was that she had no
health problems. On three different occasions, she was
promised a home in the United States.
After that much time and investment, I just couldn't
have her put down, but she couldn't live in Akumal. My
bill at that point exceeded 700.00. I finally went to
Paco to pay him, and to tell him that there was
nothing more that I could do.
As usual, Paco was wonderful. First, of course, he was
happy that I had come to take responsibility. Vets
everywhere get animals left with fake addresses and
phone numbers. He gave me a break on the boarding
costs.
Then, he shocked me. He had decided to keep Sheila at
the clinic! He saw what I had seen. I always pictured
her as a watch dog for someone who would keep her away
from the public. Paco described her that way. She is
the meanest, most loving dog I have ever met. She just
doesn't want any more abuse for herself, or for anyone
who has decided to love her. She is now the official
watchdog of the clinic.
If you are in Playa, stop by to visit Sheila. Also,
let's try to find a way to continue to help Paco in
his efforts. Mary Nyhagen
