Prize-winning Poems from Our
World Water Day 2005 Contest
FIRST PLACE
Water
Cori Alondra Puc Pablo, age 11
Fresh water, sweet water, water blue like the sky...
Water, you are my reason for living,
and that of all humans, animals, plants, and all of nature.
If not for you, we would perish.
On autumn evenings you shine like crystal,
on days of wind you are fresh as the air,
on winter days, cold as ice.
Restless water.
Now it is spring and the tenderness returns,
but a little bird that drops down to take a drink
and the soul of the poplar trembles within the water’s soul.
SECOND PLACE
Crystal Water
Norma Patricia Kinil Kinil, age 10
Crystal water, clear and beautiful.
Without her we could not live.
Clear water fills our life with happiness and joy.
That is why we must care for it, so we don’t run out of water.
Because she fills our life with happiness and joy.
Clear water gives us a crystalline life.
THIRD PLACE (TIE)
Water
Dalia Abigail Tun May, age 7
Water you are dear to me.
If you didn’t exist, this world would not function.
For me you are a treasure, but people don’t realize who you are.
They don’t care. They pollute.
They toss their trash as if you were a garbage can.
They believe you are lifeless, but they are wrong.
You are our life.
Please Don't Pollute the Water
Alexander Dzul Tuz, age 8
Please don’t pollute the water.
If you pollute it all, you will become sick when you drink it.
Please don’t pollute the water, because we all need it.
Do not put trash in it because you will pollute it and hurt us all.
Please don’t pollute the water.
