Jazz for Peace

Centro Ecológico Akumal (CEA) is pleased to announce that the New York based group Jazz for Peace will be holding a concert on December 29th in support of our conservation efforts in the Riviera Maya.

CEA was founded in 1993 to “monitor the impact of development on the regional ecosystems and culture, to report findings and their significance to the public through education, and through education influence public policy”.

Throughout the years, it has worked in Akumal and in neighboring communities through its Sea Turtle Conservation, Environmental Education and Waste Management programs. In addition to these efforts, CEA is attempting to launch a new program in to protect Marine and Coastal Ecosystems, and work towards their recovery.

In recognition of its work, Jazz for Peace has selected CEA to be one of the beneficiaries of its first ever México Tour. Jazz for Peace was founded in 2002 when jazz pianist Rick DellaRatta was asked to conduct a group of musicians representing every continent for a concert at United Nations headquarters in New York City. Rick named the band Jazz for Peace, and since then they have dedicated themselves to raising funds for various non-profit organizations through a series of benefit concerts.

From its beginnings in New York, the organization has expanded its area of influence, staging concerts around the world and raising funds for organizations in each locale. En December 2004 they will hold their first ever tour of Mexico, with dates in Mexico City, Puebla, Los Cabos, San Luis Potosí, and of course Akumal. Tickets for this event are on sale through Centro Ecologico Akumal. PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS TODAY by clicking here or contact David Nuñez at david@ceakumal.org or through the CEA office at (984) 875-9095.
