May Day, May Day!
Akumal turtles may need to be rescued, the nests will need to be marked and protected, and on-going vital research needs to continue. We need your help. CEA's Turtle Protection Program costs $10,000 to run, and due to recent cut backs from foundations and funding organizations, your help is needed more than ever before. If you would like to learn more about this program, please click here.
CEA Website
This Website has been funded in part by a grant from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for the last year and by on-going support from Ulanji. It is with great pleasure and appreciation that we take this opportunity to thank the Sam and Charles Foundation for helping to fund this Website for the next six months. The Sam and Charles Foundation, founded by Lisa and David U’Prichard in memory of their fathers, is the same group that has funded the Akumal School Banos Project.
School year comes to an end
As this school year wraps up in Akumal, as well as in many other places in the world, we took a look at how the new scholarship program worked out. The results were great and the teachers and principals were pleased. We hope to continue this program next year. Please take a moment to read Mauricio Bautista Vega's Scholarship Report..
Akumal dog finds new home in South Carolina
Many of you have met her if you have been to Akumal in the last year. Some of you know the story and have asked for an update. Lola, an Akumal beach dog, came home with Lydia Pontius, our Web manager and video producer, after her last trip in February. She underwent heartworm treatment, thanks to the kind help of many, and is doing great! She spends her days sleeping on the couch, playing with her friend, Nick, and constantly showing her appreciation and affection to her new family. If you would like to learn more about adopting a dog from the Akumal area feel free to contact Lydia.
Many of the beach dogs and cats are healthy thanks to the efforts of volunteer veterinarians such as YARF. In July, another group of veterinarians will be coming down to conduct clinics in Akumal, Chemuyil, and Playa del Carmen. If you would like to learn more or make a donation, please contact us.
