CEA’s February Celebration Was a Huge Success.
Thanks to the many members, supporters, visitors and local Akumalians who attended CEA’s Celebration February 17 and 18, it was fabulously successful. We kicked off Monday with an informal group meeting where people had a chance to meet the CEA staff and find out what is new and exciting. At 1 PM Kate Robinhawk led a group to the Akumal Quarry where she discussed the CeMIR Project and waste management. At 3 PM Alejandro took several folks on a snorkeling tour of Akumal Bay and they saw, among other things, 4 turtles. Happy Hour was enjoyed by many at the ever popular Lol Ha Beach Bar. We wrapped up the evening with a marvelous Maya Buffet at .Imelda’s Good Food, on The CEA Center patio. It was a sold out event and everyone had a wonderful evening.
Tuesday there were more than 20 people who began a picture-perfect day with a morning walk and Geology Tour led by Dr. Charles Shaw. At 10 AM Mauricio Bautista Vega and Kate Riley took a large group to the Escuela Primaria Francisco Sarabia in Akumal Pueblo where we got to learn more about the School Banos Project, and CEA’s Environmental Program as well as our Scholarship Program. At 6 PM we had a Taste of Akumal Pot Luck with almost 50 people in attendance. We had a variety of dishes made by those who attended and several appetizers compliments of Lol Ha. It was a terrific time and a great chance for folks to mingle and meet new people. The evening ended with several folks going on a night snorkel with Alejandro and everyone had an opportunity to touch a baby and mother octopus.
All of us at CEA would like to thank each and every one of you who attended our event and helped to make it such a delightfully enjoyable time. Be sure to check our website often to learn about new and exciting things that are happening at CEA. Be sure to drop by The CEA Center and say hi to Mary or contact us for more information.
