Cooperativa Orgánica
José and Elimelec have not been terribly busy since the organics production has been down this past month. To stay busy, they have been helping out with another project, the beautification of the CEA dorms.

Turtle Protection Program
Social Service student Ivan Cabellero has recently completed his training in veterinary medicine and, following completion of his required 'social service,' will join CEA as Director of the Turtle Protection Program for 2004. Concerning his appointment, Ivan writes: When I came to Akumal for the first time, I never thought that I would finish the turtle nesting season in charge of the turtle program. Today the season is over and we have finished the final report for SEMARNAT, the Mexican National Fish and Wildlife Agency that keeps the database. I’m so glad for this opportunity to work with CEA´s Turtle Protection Program. To learn more about the turtle season, click here.

The EcoShop
In the pursuit of CEA’s goal to have a clean environment in Akumal and its surroundings, The CEA Information Center is looking for products to sell and promote that are ecologically-friendly such as: water efficient showers and toilets; phosphate-free, biodegradable soaps; organic foods; lamps and light bulbs that are non-contaminating and energy efficient; solar energy products; suntan lotions and insect repellents that are natural; paper bags, wrapping paper, and take-out boxes. If you are a supplier or manufacturer of any of these products or other eco-technologies, please contact us. Click here to read this in Spanish and English.
