The 2008 nesting season is winding down in Akumal. This has been a successful season thanks to managing the beaches so that each nesting mother can come ashore to find a great place to dig a hole and leave her eggs, and then safely make it back to the sea. We're still updating numbers on nests and hatchlings in Akumal.
Report – 05 January 2009:
Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) 113 nests, 10,330 hatchlings
Green (Chelonia mydas) 196 nests, 18,734 hatchlings
