In accordance with the land use planning regulations of the region, the "Plan de Ordenamiento Ecológico Territorial de la Riviera Maya," we request that the following points be observed with utmost care during the time the Marine Turtles nest, beginning approximately April 15 and running through October.
-
Don´t capture, damage or kill any marine turtle.
-
Use low-intensity red or amber lights to illuminate the exterior of houses and hotels.
-
Don’t bother the turtles as they are nesting.
-
Don't have bonfires.
-
Don’t litter the beaches.
-
Don’t introduce or allow dogs or cats onto the beach.
According to land use planning regulations, the construction of new buildings on nesting beaches is limited to 50 meters behind the federal zone. In order to avoid any possible disturbance to the marine turtles, all of the buildings that are on the beach should have soft inside lights and curtains to avoid the reflection of light onto the sand.
Thanks for helping us make these regulations become a reality in protecting México's beaches during turtle nesting season.
In addition, we would like to inform you of the existence of a new program in which you can help. As part of The Federal Environmental Protection Agency, you can have a voice in the Comite de Vigilancia Participativa which allows members of the community to participate first-hand in marine turtle protection, while CEA continues to carry out conservation programs and research. Please contact CEA for more information.
